The Fayetteville Lions Club, sponsored by the Fort Smith club, was chartered on May 10, 1923 with 23 members.  We currently have 44 members and we invite more GOOD, DEDICATED men and women to join our club.  The Lions motto is "WE SERVE."

2009-2010 Club President Wes Murtishaw has been a member of the Fayetteville Lions Club for 36 years.  Lion Wes is a Melvin Jones Fellow and has served the Fayetteville Club in the past as Lion Tamer and Tail Twister 3 times.  He has also served on the Board of Directors and Finance, White Cane and Auction of the Air committees.

Membership in the Lions Club is by invitation only.  Any member can bring a prospect to the Wednesday luncheon meeting twice as the guest of the Club.  After the second meeting, a membership application is presented to the new prospect to complete and submit for approval to the Fayetteville Lions Club Board of Directors.  A membership fee of $25.00 is to be submitted by the prospect at the time of membership application.  Luncheon meals, International, State, District, and Club dues are $161.25 per quarter or $53.75 per month.  Membership meals and dues are billed in advance for active club members.

Becoming a Lion is an honor and a privilege, and like all privileges, carries the responsibility to support the club through attendance, participation and service.  It can also be fun and rewarding!  At our weekly lunch meetings we always have interesting speakers and and lots of laughter and fun!  Rewards come through helping those in need.

The men and women of the Fayetteville Lions Club through the various fund-raising projects (White Cane Days, Auction of the Air, Challenge for Sight 5k Run, Flag Project) were able to raise $20,835.00 net in fiscal year 2008-2009.  One hundred percent (100%) of that money went to help someone in need:

121 Fayetteville residents in need were given eye exams and/or glasses for a total cost to the Fayetteville Lions Club of $10,594.

The Fayetteville Lions Club helped the Diabetes Awareness & Service Center, a District 7-I Lions Club project to help those in need with diabetes supplies and medication on a temporary basis.

Fayetteville Lions Club donated $2,900. to Lions World Services for the Blind in Little Rock, Arkansas, to help support this international school for the blind.

$3,000. was dontated to the Lions Mid-South Sight & Hearing, which in turn helped one Fayetteville resident with Mascular Degeneration eye surgery and two local residents in need with cataract surgery.

The Fayetteville Lions Club dontated $1,100. to help a 7-year young Fayetteville girl with a serious cancerous eye disease that would have left her blind without the surgery.

$300. was given to a Fayetteville elementary school to help purchase supplies or other needs for sight-impaired students.

The needs are many for the blind or sight-impaired.  You can help by becoming a member of the Fayetteville Lions Club (print membership form online) or through your donations.  HELP THE FAYETTEVILLE LIONS CLUB HELP YOUR COMMUNITY!!!
